Who would be interested in a washable urethane air filter for the 4D56T?

I think I'm going to buy one, just because so many parts are becoming unavailable. The filter is the SIMOTA Racing Sports ZTCA-023 filter, and is supposedly of better quality than the K&N version; but that kind of doesn't matter since the K&N is no longer available. They are telling me it is a very low production item which they may discontinue soon as well; it is not listed on their website.

The price they have given me is $71.50 + sh. I have inquired about qtty pricing, but haven't heard back yet.

Is this from T3? I saw the SIMOTA air filter in their products list and wondered about it. I'd be interested in one too, if you're placing a bulk order!

Speaking of many parts becoming unavailable, what else would you advise stocking up on now? I'd like to stockpile things I might need in the future for my 1990 L300 Diesel 4WD AT (D4BF). I've put so much into it already, I'd definitely like to keep it running for many years yet!

Things you know you will need and which don't go bad are a good bet... brake pads/shoes/hardware, air/oil filters, etc.
Rubber components that are specific, harmonic damper, door/window seals, belts, etc. But rubber goes bad just with age; and storing it poorly will only make that worse.
Common failure items, alternator, starter, etc... those can generally be rebuilt, but shops that do that kind of work are becoming rarer and more expensive.

But Murphy's Law indicates that whatever you have will not be what you need...

Definitely put me down for a SIMOTA air filter, if you do a bulk order (assuming others express interest here too)!

I'll keep piling up parts, especially things I know I'll need, like you say. Hopefully the 2022 D4BF takes care of quite a few, but I did just pick up brake lines (thanks to @B-Line Performance ) and brake pads (EBC DP6716) and plan to pick up other brake parts soon too. I have window seals ready to install here as well (mine keep water out, but are still much in need of replacing).

Thanks for all your help! I've printed out quite a few guides you've put on the forum, to keep in the van in case I need to troubleshoot while on the road! I was totally clueless about engines and mechanical things until reading threads here daily. Now I know how to use a socket set... it's about as far from Linux server administration as one can get ;)

I was thinking about it after putting on my last paper filter, but I'm in Canada (Victoria, BC) so not sure if it would make sense to group buy vs request direct shipping.

I was concerned about the whole oil filter not being good for dust debate since my driving is 60% dusty (80% dirt roads, but in the rainy season it isn't dusty) .. read that the Simota is a bit better than K&N in this regard, but is it hype? The paper filters do feel obtainable currently, but wow do they get dirty fast for me ...

The one thing I found that surprised me is that, in many applications the filter in the L300 is actually used as an "external" pre-filter, with a secondary filter inside of it. I'm thinking that running the secondary filter might be a good idea if you run offroad a lot. But then again, these vehicles are ~ 30yrs old with 100k+ on them... not sure how much difference any of it will make within the duration of my ownership.

I haven't found the micron rating for any of them...

Interesting because I'm nearly certain the S130 Bobcat (skid steer, Kubota motor) that I use at work has the exact same EXTERNAL air filter as our van's (L300) single filter. It has an INNER filter similar or same to as you pictured. I never measured to be sure, because being on the clock and such, but when doing my machine checklists noticed this. Although the way I drive the van isn't as extreme as a skid steer; definitely similar dust levels at times TBH. Not really "offroad" usually per se, but gravel/dirt roads get very much particulate matter in the air with traffic in summer ... the air filter looks old quick.

Probably very right about the "within the duration of ownership" bit ...

But on the one hand tempted to get a washable filter just so I have something that can be repaired vs. replaced; saving the parts canon for the other bits plus one less thing to worry about (even if only $20 +/- (for now)) / store in closet. Curious if you have a part # on that inner filter? On the other hand tempted to stick with paper filters, but a washable filter + inner filter has to be better than a stock paper filter ... can probably realistically blow the inner filter out with an air gun many times ... I just did the buy 4-6 filters to have on hand trick last time and found it didn't really last that long .... so maybe washable; except the fear of dust bit which I'm trying not to be too fearful of ... really 4-5x the cost of an air filter is pretty low risk in my opinion, but alas ...

One version of the inner filter is the Fleetguard AF1966. And yes, those filters are used on some Bobcats. Blowing out the filter isn't a great choice; but the AF1966 could be re-skinned easily.

Spoke to a guy a while ago at a napa and he mentioned that the air filters are used in tractors and they had a bunch of them in stock. This was in an industrial area of Seattle. Kinda figured we wouldn't have an issue securing them, so I never worried about these.

Took a closer look today Bobcat taking: OUTER WIX 42222 (same as delica) / INNER WIX 42769 (extra).

But in order to use the inner on a delica you would need to modify the air filter housing so that the filters are retained using threaded rod and a series of wing nuts (such as bobcat air filter housing). The delica uses a wing bolt to retain it's single filter.

FWIW, I've backed out of the purchase... the minimum order to get a decent discount ($55) was 20 pieces, and with shipping the landed cost was still going to be just over $70 ea. Quoted price for a single filter was $70 + sh.

Probably wouldn't be hard to do; but I kind of doubt it is really worthwhile.
