Delicas in MN

I just found this forum. I’m in the Mankato, MN area and i am looking for a delica l300. I would greatly appreciate any information or assistance from locals.

Thanks

yo, MN deli peeps: I did the DELICA light mod on my L300 and it was pretty quick and easy. I've got several extra LED bulbs so hit me up if you want 2 of them for your van.

Yo moonpost! I just started my Delica search I live in south Minneapolis. Let me know if you want to meet up sometime; let’s grow the MN crew!

cool. I looked casually and seriously for almost 5 years (2 if you subtract the covid years). found mine on CarsandBids.com and had it delivered. good luck!

Thanks for the tip! I’m ready to move into a Delica pretty soon; ideally before the end of the year. I’m still open to other jdm vans right now, but the L300 checks all the boxes and looks the best in my opinion. I have a Vehicross right now and always liked the Pajeros we never got; the Delica seems to be the best mashup of a van and small
SUV. I’m smitten, hahaha.

so, anybody here gone up to the new-ish Mille Lacs County ORV park for some beginner off-roading? I might head up there on Sunday. I want to see how the 4x4 works.

Haven't been yet! In posts from the Soft Roaders FB group I'm in it sounds pretty tame, but can get muddy in spots. I can't join you this time unfortunately as I already have plans out of town. Another thing I'm not going to is the soft roaders group is having a get together at Spider Lake on Saturday; further away and a day earlier, but its another relatively tame trail system for stock rigs. That group has a lot of Subarus and stock Toyotas.

Remember your OHV stickers!

I'm bringing my Isuzu VX to the Iron Range ORV park next month on Aug 19th if you or anyone wants to meet up then. I found out a local Jeep shop is sponsoring a trail ride that weekend too, so I may or may not join them. Its free to join, although they encourage a donation.

The link says 2022, but its for 2023.

PS I'm still searching for my own Delica; thanks again for the drive @moonpost !!

That Mille Lacs place looks pretty cool, I'll have to check it out sometime. Also, I hadn't heard "soft roaders" before and I think that perfectly describes the type of driving I'd like to do.

We had a fun time up on the trail today! My kid, Ari, filmed a video of it that you can check out. It was 2-4 MPH the whole time, which I didn't expect (I was thinking more like single-track mountain bike trails with hills and log piles and such), but it was pretty fun. There is also a small 'skill park' or whatever there with some crazy installations of cement pipes and huge tractor tires and berms and such.

Very nice! I like the excited Jeep driver, hahaha. And yeah, off road parks are usually pretty slow. Maybe we can find some forest roads if you wanna go a bit faster.

have any of you heard of this Border To Border Northern Minnesota route? I'm very intrigued!

I don't want to bombard this thread, but yeah, I've heard of the B2B. Haven't been on any part of it yet, but its technically made up of all roads, no off road tabs needed. Several off road and overland groups regularly have meetups, messages, and events for it, and I know of at least one shop, Zeus Offroad, that hosts an event 1-2 times per year that do the whole thing. 4-5 days I believe.

I sense a Delica B2B trip in the future...

PS there's a few other non-official routes popping up in MN with the ongoing overlanding crowd. Check out the FB Group 'Minnesota Adventure Trails'. Similar to the B2B, routes are generally made up of roads, albeit gravel, forest, and sometimes non-maintained roads. I've been meaning to check out the SEMAT, SouthEastern Minnesota Adventure Trail. Lots of camping options in the driftless area of SE MN, and not too far from the Twin Cities.

SEMAT Route Google Maps

Like with many 'overlanding' things the roads, camping options, and quaint towns have always been there; but there's a lot more resources available now. And its cooler ;)
