Hey! I just picked up a '94 L300 with a reimo camper. Couldnt be more psyched!IMG_4484.jpg

I just picked up a '94 L300 from Gila Monster Motors in Taos. Great experience. I'll be the first USA owner of the car, and as a result, I have the certificate of Import and a notarized translation. On the certificate of import, the domestic owner is listed as the import company, not the dealer that I purchased the car from, but on all the rest of the customs paperwork, the owner is listed as the dealer (gila monster motors). This morning, the lady at the Boulder County clerk and recorder balked when she saw that the certificate of import didnt match the bill of sale. I tried showing her the rest of the customs paperwork and that didn't do much. So, no temporary plates were issued.

So here comes the question: Anyone have any experience here? Should I just keep trying other DMV's until someone helps me?

Big thanks to everyone who has been so helpful in other threads. Huge help. Extra shoutout to @rennrot for his exceptional step by step instructions on registering in Colorado.

I was finally able to get temporary tags yesterday. S/o to the Longmont Clerk and Recorder Office.

I'll be chronicling my trials and tribulations in getting this hot puppy registered in this thread. If you find this at some juncture in the future, and find it helpful, feel free to PM me.

I was able to register my van. Picked up the plates yesterday. If you want help navigating the Colorado JDM registration process, I'm happy to be a resource.

Welcome! I had to navigate the emissions process since I lived on the front range. It was not 100% smooth but I got it done.

I got the title in the mail. All is good. No matter what the folks at the DMV tell you, stand your ground. Show them the list of required documents from the state. At both DMV's I went to, they tried to get me to submit documents that weren't listed. What a circus.

I just moved to Colorado (The Springs) from WA - I've owned my van since 2017 and have had it registered in PA, CA, and WA....somehow CO seems to be the hardest so far. I can't get past the VIN Verification, so I am basically stuck at step 1. They tell me in order to put a vehicle date on the form, they have to pull it off the vehicle, since they can't find a date or use the VIN, they left the date blank. The DMV is telling me the date has to be on the VIN Verification form. Any suggestions? Should I try going other places (either DMV's or VIN Verifiers)?

Where did you go for VIN verification? I know I started at a CSP station, and I'm pretty sure that I got it done there.

I went to AAA because we were already there for our other car. They were willing to do the van, they just left a lot blank :) Maybe I’ll “shop around” for a VIN Verifier. Thanks for the info on the CSP!

Ahoy! Welcome to Co!

Lee Myles diesel in Boulder did my vin (diesel... hah, sorry) verification, and my emissions all in one appointment. FWIW, CSP vin appointments are usually booked months out. If I were you, I'd re-register at a buddies place in Wa, and just have your tags forwarded.

I barely passed my emissions test down here. Does your van have an EGR? A deleted EGR is an instant fail down here.

I am the first US owner - I never did the EGR delete, so I presume it is still there. Any other recommendations on the emissions test? Looks like @mattyk2 had challenges too. I saw the other thread mentioned going biodiesel, but it doesn't look like that's much of an option down here.

Don't do the EGR delete yet, as there's a small chance they will want to see the EGR in place during an inspection.
As I recall, I had to go to the CDPHE Technical Center in southwest Denver, so they could generate a test standard. I needed this when I went to a diesel testing center, as they didn't have a Delica in their database. Not sure if you'll have to do the same, or if I created the standard for you.
