Steering shaft too short and looks sketchy. Trying to find solution.

Just to clarify... it is cranking the torsion bars that causes this; the BJ spacers do not provide any lift, and you need them either way.
Correct, sorry if I wasn't clear. I was on my phone running out the door. BJ spacers, allow for a little bit of added travel.

To further expand on that, I know you know SK, but for the others… If we were to crank the torsion bars to get the lift, we would very quickly make contact between the bump stop and the upper control arm.

Adding the longer BJ or Spacer lifts the control arm a up little. This creates some space between the bump and control arm, buying you back some movement.

Woohoo!! Heavy Metal Custom auto in Bellingham pulled through for the win. They removed my worn steering shaft and then welded a sleeve into my newer steering shaft and replaced the bolts locking everything together. The upper portion of the shaft now has over 1/2 inch of bite, and the lower portion that has the four bolts through the circular plate - the two overlap bolts now have significant overlap, instead of no overlap at all.

Holy cow!!! With an alignment and more tweaks and checks this thing is driving better than it ever has. It is finally super smooth and fun to drive, instead of terrifying.

Hilariously, after putting $14,000 into fixing it up over the last 5-years, I've decided to sell it and get an L400. I already bought the silver L400 in the picture below. I work in the film industry and am constantly hauling gear on highways, so I decided that I need a newer rig that can cruise at faster highway speeds. I'll be listing my van to sell later this week so be on the lookout if any of you all want a rad lifted L300 that has been given tons of love.
