Hi, I was just wondering if there were any Delica owners in Texas, I’m in South Texas and was just wondering if there was a following down here like other parts if the country ED860599-E1BB-47F5-A22A-735665B47A7F.jpeg

Any Austin/DFW Delicas know of a shop that'll work on them? Got a no from Rising Sun, Steel Classic Auto and The Landcruiser Specialist..

No one I'm aware of. I'm in East Texas and having my Delica L400 dispatched to Idaho (Nomadic Life)... Terribly disappointed in Rising Sun.

Oof, I'm so sorry to hear that. I'll keep poking around here and hopefully doesn't come to that..

Can anyone explain why mechanics who work on old shitboxes from 1940 to today hear 90s diesel JDM van and go HELL NO? I'm genuinely curious. I got laughed off the phone 3 times today. It can't be more difficult or higher liability or any harder to get parts than other european or decades old shitbox. Thoughts?

Buy some wrenches and get skilled.
Theoretically I'm with you. And I do have some wrenches. And I have done basic work on it. But as my only car and some weird shit happening all the sudden, I just don't have the luxury to have it busted in my apt driveway for a month and would gladly pay for someone with 8x the experience to do it in 1/8 of the time. Or I just lease a new car as my daily.. Both probably cost the same.

Still curious as to why mechanics don't want to work on them.

Likely because these vans don't come into the shop that much unless they are geared up for this, more risk for them to ponder in new work vs what they are familiar with. Somewhat Fuc~ed if doing bigger work in an apartment complex. Maybe meet some new friends with a shop or space and get a loaner or cheap car you can flip back?
