What Did You Do for Your Van Today?

Thanks man!! Got tired of havin to make sure I was gettin the right fuel pumped in Oregon. Lol. Wish I could make it up from Boise for the meet.

I recently installed Monroe 708 air shocks on the rear. I was unhappy with the upper bushings and thought the shocks were too close to the frame. The upper eye is much smaller than original shock. As most know, to use the Monroe shocks, you have to take out the metal center pin of the bushing. However, the hole in the new bushing is still too small for the Delica mount and has to be drilled out. And, the old bushing is too large to fit in the new eye. While the metal eye is the same width, the new Monroe bushing is much narrower than the stock bushing. As a result, it is possible for the wider Monroe shock to contact the frame when using the bushing that came with the new shock. I ordered new bushings, 2 for each shock. I had to cut them down to fit. To me this is a much better fit and matches the width of the original upper mount. It took a little work to get them on.

What does the spacing look like when they're installed?

Where did you find yours? also having trouble removing mine. caught on something towards the left.
I'm in the process of finding one too but to get it out there are 4 screws to get the trimm around it off (2 in the center above the gauges, 1 behind the brake fluid reservoir cover plate, and 1 behind the hazards and rear wiper switches which you have to pry out and remove the two in tandem to expose the screw behind them.
Once you have the trim off then there are just 4 screws on the corners of the actual cluster.

great thanks! coudn't find the one behind the harzards.

Last week, sealed the seams on the front cheeks, hoping to have dry feet this week. Fixed my Delica light in the back, now have an Elica. Replaced burned out Wheel Lock bulb (#2721) in the instrument/speedometer panel. Tried to adjust passenger window so it doesn't rattle as much, time will tell.

Been a busy weekend. After rewiring license plate lights, converting DELICA logo to Led, installing the front replacement speakers (thanks kellyn) , I decided to look into my broken temperature gauge. The van was putting out some heat, but not a ton, so I started it cold and looked under the radiator cap which was flowing like a river. Sign that the T-state failed open.

Considering it is 20 degrees out there and going down to 3 tonight, I wanted to expedite this. So upper radiator hose also got an update. Stabbed a hole in it. Drained coolant from there. The thermostat was so toasted it practically exploded out of the housing. (see pic). Soaking and scraping the gasket off was the worst part.

I would be happy to do tech photos of some of projects, but I don't know if there is interest as the majority of members seem to have Diesel. If there are enough petrol guys interested, I can going forward. This is a great forum. Thanks!!IMG_2528.JPG
No bueno.

That's better.

I'd be interested.

I think a gas part number thread and/or a gas focused tech thread might be useful. Many of the parts and repairs carry over, but there's a number that don't.

Shoot Kellyn a pm on this. I am sure he would be willing to add this even if it is only you two asking and replying :p

That being said if something is posted in a gas only thread most others might not pop in to see what’s happening. Then you lose any knowledge the group has of mechanical issues and trouble shooting from our many years of wrenching on broken things diesel or gas.

Re-indexed the torsion bars (which have needed doing for ages) and adjusted the ride height to bring the front up to stop the new wheels rubbing (265/70x16 on +10 offset L200 warrior rims).
Found rust. Thought about summer jobs for my son...

Couple of pix of front and rear end of torsion bar for anyone thinking of doing the job.

I would be interested, I have a petrol van and any knowledge no matter how simple or complicated is useful for the board. I believe we should have a petrol/gasser tech section even if we are the minority. Keep posting how to's, I appreciate it. Thanks!

I agree. Just note where a How-To is petrol specific and post away!

Huh? My door light actually has a switch built into it. You just slide the light left or right and you can turn it off and on. Is this a difference in year or model I wonder?
Maybe year model differs. My sliding door light had a toggle switch, broke off. Don't really need that light anyway so I'm not replacing the switch, at least not with a toggle.

Yup, that's a great point... maybe I'll start a gas/petrol parts thread and we'll just keep all the tech repair stuff together. I'm trying to make sure that gas/petrol/4g64 is in my subject or content so that it can be searched.

Good points everyone. There are several gas versions, mine is a 4g63B, but the engines are in the same family and most parts, accessories will interchange. As long as the subject line/content has gas/petrol, should be easy enough to find.

No Delica, but Mitsubishi 4x4 platform related. Spent all day Monday helping a friend with his new Montero project. He ended up buying two identical vehicles, one for parts and the other for driving, with the goal of making one well running/looking vehicle. Today was the first day we really dove in to it. Lots of little things were swapped, interior trim/panels, mirrors, seats, gave it a good cleaning, oil change.

As for Delica, thanks to @mclean13 I got my FTS order and threw my side vents on!IMG_2532.JPG
