Wheel bearing cross-reference #'s?

Hey there - first post here! Nice to meet you guys. I'm a technician at a shop in the DC area working on a 92 L300, 4WD...

This thing has a bad front wheel bearing and I'm doing my best to find a set of front bearings this week for my customer — I'll need pads and rotors as well. Do all of these parts cross to a 92 Montero? I've poked around the net and forums and can't find a conclusive answer; any help would be appreciated!

I have a mountain of tools obviously but am also wondering about the hub nut — Mitsu says you need a special tool, but is there an obvious workaround? Haven't put eyes on it yet.

Thanks so much

If it's original and hasn't been upgraded to twin piston calipers then all of those parts cross to late 80's Montero.

If you are going to be doing a bunch of work on these there are some very useful resources; epc-data.com is great for finding part#'s and OEM parts from overseas, and partsfan.com is good for finding crosses to US market Mitsubishi's and aftermarket parts.

Hub nut tool: check this thread for some ideas, also note the workshop manual procedure for checking the preload using a spring scale (step "C" that most people ignore).

Steven's method of finding parts is also my preferred method: chassis number into epc-data.com, then cross reference on patrsfan.com (make an account there if the server says it's overloaded). If cross referencing doesn't work, you can always throw the part number into Google, there's usually Ebay or Amazon listings that use equivalent generic part numbers as keywords.

Amayama.com list genuine parts at good prices, but they also sometimes list equivalent aftermarket parts. In your case, '92 wheel bearings are MB092749 and Amayama also lists Febest KIT-L200 (which is two bearings plus the oil seal).

Genuine Mitsubishi bearings are repackaged NTN LM102949/10 bearings, but you probably already read that from the old bearings.

EPC-data.com is Amayama... that's why I didn't mention that site separately.

Does the Febest KIT-L200 fit the L300 4WD? I found a set on Ebay, but they don't show compatibility.

As for aftermarket wheel bearings... anything I should look out for? I see a bunch from Latvia with various names (Meyle, Metzger, etc)

CCAutos wants over $200 for the a set of front bearings, so I am looking at alternatives.

You can get a complete set of four Timken bearings w/ races and a pair of inner seals for ≤ $95 delivered. The same parts fit 80's Montero and are readily available.
I would not install a terribly cheap set unless I had no other option...

Hmm, do you have a part number for the Timken ones?
