Delica JB500 Camper

I just look at the link you send. This is the one I need, my egt is where the boost is located very small. I wonder if I can replace mine with this format, plug and play.
I was able to order the one where the analog needle gage is EGT and the Boost and Temp is the small digital reading at the bottom. I'll try and start the install tomorrow!

Great i am getting same gauge you are getting when i get back in April. According to their tech support the wiring is plug and play with the gauge you are ordering. Great news for me. Thx

Engine work aside, you're going to have a learning curve on the house electrics, appliances, expanding house battery capacity, new US standard shore power, maybe a fridge swap to something that runs efficiently on 12V, than also solar on the roof ( I put a 160 watt panel up)....the list goes on.
My JB500 is the same model as yours.
And mine came over with about 12K miles on 4/20, I got it on 9/20, been working on it since, planning on heading off in a month.
I'm not modifying the engine. Just going to go slow. Timing belt, balancer shift belt, all belts, pulleys, water pump were done when I got it as part of my purchase deal.
Issues with old rubber / plastic parts decayed from age pop up.
The gray water waste tank spigot broke apart the first time I worked it, had to drop the tank, cut a hole to fit a new, different unit , re-fiberglass the tank, get it back up etc etc....things like that just happen.
My front end is getting new ball joints, had to replace the Idler arm, the synthetic bushing in it had deterioration, gonna replace the rear leaf spring bushings, also age related deterioration, and look into a helper leaf to boost the rear up a couple inches, plus I had a custom rear trailer hitch fabricated to pull my motorcycle trailer.
Hi!
Im having trouble finding an idler arm for my JB500. Any leads on where you found yours and what the part number is? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Can I ask you how you purchased your jb500? I'm seriously looking to buy one too. Can you give me your buyer/importer's contact info? Thanks! And congrats on your purchase!!
I have a 94. I just had DelicaUSA upgrade to a turbo. That included a complete head assembly, turbo, rebuilt injector pump and manifold. I have replaced the complete exhaust with a larger 2.5” to accommodate the turbo. All cushions have been reupholstered. I am looking to sell and purchase a Sprinter based unit. I will sell at a bit of a loss for no less than $39. Turbo upgrade was $6k alone.

See my post regarding my JB 500 and a possible sale in this thread. Or just search JB500

I get that this message is not about the usual turbo pressure or intercooler stuff but....

I moved house in Scotland a few weeks ago and only have my JB500 here. So it is doing the grocery shopping trips and hardware store runs. But every time I start the engine I crack a big smile. I get that old vehicles are a challenge, but just for a moment I'd like to say how stupidly happy I feel when it starts

Hey, sorry I didn't see this before, usually I get an alert on a forum message, but didn't.
The Idler arm I used was sourced by Steven Lee / Rising Sun. It isn't a Mitsubishi OEM, it's for a Hundai Galloper , but it fit exactly the same with one modification, the mounting flat plate has three bolt holes in a triangle configuration, the top hole didn't align with the frame member hole, we drilled an aligned hole just below on the plate, it was perfect. The arm is identical besides that one mount hole reposition.
Didn't affect any alignment.
The OEM Idler had some kind of nonmetallic bushing that had disintegrated, I'm assuming it was designed to have an ability to flex, I'm not sure, but it definitely was not internally bushed with metal.
On the other side, my Bell Crank housing also had play. That was hard to source but I did get the OEM also thru Rising Sun, but I found the part # myself online, then had RS import it to me.

Been creeping for a minute- I see several are based here in Los Angeles. I just picked up a 95 and would love to see some other rigs. I have a lot I want to do and could use some info/inspiration. I live in the Glassell Park/Mt Washington area. Who is nearby?

Hello, We are very new to the world of Delica. Our Delica is a JB500 camper should be arriving in Los Angeles in about 2 to 3 weeks. We will prep it in Los Angeles then begin our joy ride across the USA. We have a lot of learning to do. What we know so far is that it is a L300 with a 4D56 turbo Diesel engine (learned from this forum). The first thing we will do is to change the timing belt, we are trying to source a timing belt kit. I have already send inquiries to Amayama and Megazip. If there are other sources please let us know. After changing the timing belt, water pump etc.. Next is to make the engine more efficient and reliable . This will include the following;
1. Inter cooler - looking for a bolt on kit if available
2. Installing a larger down pipe - looking for a bolt on kit if available if not it will be a trip to a muffler shop
3. Installing a more efficient air intake - looking for a bolt on kit
4. EGT gage - what brand are you all using?
5. Boost control - what brand are you all using?
6. Install an electric fuel pump
7. Install an oil catch can
Other suggestions to make the engine for efficient and reliable are welcome. After installing the above we will then twik the engine as suggested in this forum i.e, removing the EGR gage etc....

Looking forward to your suggestions. We will share inside photos when we get them. Thank you.
I have a 94 jb500 on an l300 frame. I had DelicaUSA in Philadelphia add a turbo. That involved a new head assembly, injector pump, injectors, complete exhaust from the manifold out to accommodate the turbo and custom oil lines, etc. Also, a new aluminum radiator and auxiliary cooling fan was added. it wasn’t cheap. The performance improvement is noticeable and now a 55 mph cruise is easily done. Driving in windy conditions is a real eye opener. I live and camp on nearly flat terrain and have driven on the beach. I am now doing the electrical conversion which will require a new fridge when connected to shore power. I am now using it in the gas only mode. The conversion requires a replacement converter/charger and replacement of the breakers and receptacles. I also ran higher gauge wire with a ground from the new shore power connection to the breakers, converter and outlets. I settled for 30 amps in case I decide to add a rooftop a/c unit later. I would also replace the drinking water tank as it is likely to be unhealthy to drink from. Propane lines are likely in need of replacement.

Sorry I am in Los Angeles currently traveling mainland Mexico

What downpipe are people using on the JB500? As the radiator is slightly different from an L300, I assume the downpipe is different also.

I am not mechanical regarding engines. The good folks at Delica USA took care of that part. I’m good with the camper part of it all. I have an understanding of the mechanics but little experience beyond basic maintenance.

I believe mine is 2.5 inches, it is posted on this thread, it is actually a pipe attached to the oem down pipe, I just went to a tail pipe place and got one made.

ah so not an aftermarket downpipe but a 2.5" exhaust after the downpipe?

Also are the rear shackles from Steve @ Rising Sun the best option when going the same lifting route as you, Nulla?

Just got back from our six month trip through Mexico (see Map). The JB 500 perform perfectly no problem. The only issue was the Glowshift gage, lost my water gauge in San Felipe and our egt gauge was intermitting. We where 4x4 in many places i think the Glowshift wire connection came lose somewhere. I trying to thinking of changing or staying with Glowshift. Just an fyi.

I have Dutro / Dyna mirrors on both sides like below. These are awesome.

any in LA want to help me understand our electronics systems? I finally got it road worthy and now I'm looking into the various on-board items and nothing has power. Unsure where to even start.
