Delica JB500 Camper

The fuel for the webasto comes from a T in the fuel line Pic. 1. That hose has a cylindrical valve?/pump? At its downstream terminus (official sounding , no?) Pic. 2. Both a tiny fuel line and an electrical line run from that cylinder, along the frame, up to the heater, which was foolishly installed in the forward bench seat at the dinette. I had asked that the propane heater be removed and a Webasto installed. They left the propane in and in addition put the hot air vent blowing on your legs if you're sitting at the table. I'll be rerouting that out to the aisle before next winter.

While I was under the back looking at the fuel line I noticed that the adjustments for the lift on my rear wheels were different from the passenger and driver side. Is this normal? See photo20230513_101951_HDR~2.jpg

Since I'm on a roll this morning...
2 questions. With my naturally aspirated 4d56 I get 14-16 mpg. What do other JB models get?
I changed the oil and filter after driving it home from Portland. I've driven less than 800 miles and the oil is black and sooty. This is my first diesel, is this normal? Any recommendations about a cleaner like seafoam, Etc?

Wow, I'm delighted to make friends with other JB500 owners and more delighted to see you go from Portland where I've lived a long time to my homeland - I was born and raised in Spirit Lake Iowa!

Can you share what kind of webasto heater you installed. Does it also heat water?

Just happened on this post. . My JB500, 4D56T gets about 19mpg, maybe even 20 at times. When I tow a small motorcycle trailer & bike that is about 500lbs total, then I'm at about 18mpg. My injection pump was rebuilt last year, that improved mileage 25%.

That all looks like a great plan, though the bolt-on bit will be interesting.
I can save you a tiny bit of hassle though: cross off #6, there's no fuel pump, it's all taken care of by the injector pump.
Adding an external fuel pump is a bad idea, the injector pump uses internal fuel pressure to regulate injection timing. An external pump will raise the pressure in the whole system and mess up the timing.
Old thread, but I had to add an external 5psi electric fuel pump, could not find the reason air was getting in the system, removed and checked EVERYTHING, tank included.
Had the IP rebuilt at an IP shop, talked to the owner, he said absolutely NO problem to the IP if an electric is added as a lift pump.
Shop is "Diesels", in New Hampshire, all they do is pumps, injectors.
I've got 4500 miles on the beast since adding the electric, and it runs so strong and smooth I'll never remove it.

Don't know if it's OK to reference a FB group here, but there is one for the JB's...

It's funny that you posted this because I joined it a few days ago. Are you on there? Only 35 people in it, and I don't think I see your JB.

*EDITED*

Actually I see you now :) /wave

1. Check you have gas.
2. The spade connections at the heater can get dirty and stop working. Open the heater cover and clean the connections. It worked for me.

If that doesnt help then check electrics. If you need to remove the heater let me know as I have done that before.
I want to install a bypass to the inlet and outlet of the hot water heater with valves to winterize the system with RV antifreeze. I'm not able to work through the little access panel at the base of the counter. Do I need to pull the hot water heater to access those hoses?

IC project is on hold waiting for parts. Been reading up on the @Growlerbearnz thread. Thank you. Meanwhile, I have started on the bull bar project to relocate spare tire to the front to make room for the aux fuel tank. Purchase the bull bar from http://www.rs-import.ca/index.php. The accessories will be removed to make room for the spare tire. Thx
Any concerns about decreasing air flow to the coolers in front?

17 gallon auxiliary fuel tank done! I did not have to bleed the fuel lines, I switch the fuel valve on the main tank and started the engine, there was some fuel starvation but it keep on running, I then drove it to the gas station to fill up the auxillary tank, drove it home then switch the valve to auxiliary tank. It just keep running. I idle the engine 30 min on each tank.
Hi can you tell me more about the type and model you fitted and the process please

Hey,

I got an L039G which is the pickup (truck) version of the L300. Basically a JB500 without the camper. I'm planning on putting a camper box on the flatbed.

Have you weighted your whole rig @Nulla on a truck scale ? Just curious how heavy it is.

Thanks
