Greetings: My name is Lou Fishman and am one of the main principles at Lift Supports Depot. It appears that there are quite a few of you trying to get higher pressure or extended length supports. We have worked with a few of you trying to find supports that will suite your needs. There are a few things that I have noticed that you should be aware of. Installing supports with too much pressure is very dangerous. For an adult you know to step back when opening the hatch but if a child is near by you opening force is very deadly. Also some are looking for supports that are longer to lift the hatch higher. While this is a great idea the hinges were not designed to go fully extended and then some. On other models we have seen the hinges bend and even break so you should see the extended length takes you.

We would like to come to a group consensus as to the actual lengths needed for a factory length and preferred length as well as a pressure for the factory length and preferred length. We are lacking specs from our manufactures so this would be helpful. Once we have the data we can then go to our manufacture and have them made so we can have in stock ( first time it takes about 90 days to produce). Most likely we would go with the 10mm end fittings where you would convert the bracketed end over ball sockets as has been discussed in the forum. If anyone has a good functioning set of supports for the high roof version we would be willing to pay the shipping to have them sent to us so we can work from there.

Thank You
Lou Fishman

Awesome thread, just running into this issue on an l400 and going to try the same thing. Impressed you got your hands on the terzo ski rack!

I am wondering if this ever got sorted out?

Good question.

Is anyone willing to send their struts over? Sounds like little risk right.

The ones on my Low Roof are not that good anymore and are a different size altogether.
If no one has taken lead on this I could shoot a note over to the FB group to see if anyone is willing. There are enough people there with broken vans, someone has to be willing to do it.

@13mclean, you have a high and low roof. Send one of each over...;)

Pretty sure I did something wrong here. I cut the bracket off the old strut. Result in photos. I thought that was a pin that would then push out. Nope.

Am I going to have to order a dang replacement part?

Help appreciated because I’m stuck.

Havent done this mod myself so i don’t know what should happen here.

I would suggest clamping the leftover notch in the Vice and slipping a large adjustable wrench over the foot then rotating to see if they break free.

If not, the first post mentioned using a stepped drill bit. Perhaps cut as close as possible to the foot then drill the remainder out. Not sure if the drilling was to clean things up or to get rid of things.

Look at the images in my first post. Best to cut down the remaining welded on stud and drill out the hole to accommodate the replacement ball studs you can order here:

Here’s what you end up with top and bottom…
