Heavy Duty Rear Hatch Supports

Since adding a rear ladder and ski rack, the rear hatch struts/supports have not been up to the task of holding up the added weight. As a solution I found these correct length, 27" struts rated at 250 lbs. on Amazon...

...and adapted them to the existing brackets from the standard struts using 10mm ball studs...
They work great and easily lift and hold up the ladder in addition to the Terzo ski rack loaded with my skis and the kid's snowboards.

I used an angle grinder to remove the brackets from the standard struts and then cleaned up the holes with a metal step drill bit.

Thank you for this! My struts are toast.

do these fit the high or low roof?
I think he's got a low roof...

Since he's bought the Lift Supports Depot -10mm Metal End Lift Supports 27" Extended x 250lbs

And the two sets made for the L300 are...
Though they only hold 160 lbs, vs his 250 lbs ones...

Good question! Mine is a low roof. You wanna measure your struts extended and get the closest size. There is probably an equivalent size for this same strut on Amazon from Lift Support Depot.

Glad they work for you.
They easily lift the ladder, ski rack and my skis and can also do my kid’s two snowboards but that is near the tipping point.

I noticed you have the ball studs facing opposite directions with the lower point pointing inward. Is there no binding or rubbing?

I don’t believe there any rubbing ..I’ll check to confirm

I just removed one, and built one at a time using the other as a mirror guide...the rebound is so strong it could give me a good uppercut if I were not paying attention

Just ordered up a pair of these w/ the 10mm swapped out on the 32" 250# shocks. I really wish Lift Support Depot made more things because they are incredibly easy and helpful to work with. $59 w/ free 2-day shipping

Holy crap these things are amazing! The swap was super easy. Stepped up the hole size to accommodate the ball socket studs and then popped them in. It's crazy to see how heavy the gate is without any struts in. Now, this thing pops up super easy....I actually have to put a little arm strength into bringing it down. One of the more useful updates I've done in a while.
