Given the amount of old cars I'm really considering a 3D printer myself. the only issue is the retail stores have small hobby ones. Would I need a more premium one, say from Aliexpress??

Mother....GWIGKFAGACY!!!!

Loaded the model into 3D software and previewed.

Ok, it renders fine, let's see what the slicer thinks it needs to print...
Screen Shot 2020-07-25 at 7.38.24 PM.jpg

Here's what it ought to look like in a good model...
Screen Shot 2020-07-25 at 7.39.56 PM.jpg
and the slicer says...
Screen Shot 2020-07-25 at 7.40.07 PM.jpg

So, need to figure out what the issue is. It is likely that there are "loose" planes, and thus the software says "Oh, these aren't connected, so won't print them... :(

If anyone wants to look at the models, have at it! :)

As an update to this thread... Since @Megerald posted in this WTB thread.

I am at an impasse with the model... I have been able to model it (Several times) and every time I think it's "done" I can't make the model manifold (in other words, there are tiny gaps or holes that are unseen that prevent the slicer from figuring out that there should be some plastic put here... )

It's been driving me crazy for MONTHS! I've attached the most recent Google SketchUp model and an exported DAE model as well. And yes, I am version numbering this as π

So, if there is ANYONE with a good modeling software that can make this manifold, we could be in business!!!

Updated with Sketchup 2020 version of the file from the Sketchup Online site.

this is great news. hopefully someone out there in the community can assist further or may know someone so that we all may benefit.

@sck_nogas Have you posted this in the FB groups? That starwagon.info guy may be able to help, but I don't think he's on the forum. I'd honestly love to see this model evolve. One thing I didn't realize is that the metal mounting plate for the 3 gauge pod is very different than the one for the 2 gauge pod. So it's not a direct bolt on. Would be really cool to make a 3 pod that fits to the 2 pod bracket. I've also been wanting to design a new faceplate to house my HKS EVC and Turbo Timer all nice and clean. I should really learn more about 3d modeling...

That's a great idea! I reached out to Rio just now... Let's see what he says. :)

Already bought his 300 Watt AC Inverter Module and Spare Tire Frame Plug.

Well, this weekend I restarted the project again. Was emailing Rio back and forth and he uses PTC Creo to do his modelling. But, it's a Windows only tool. :(

So, I tried to learn a couple new tools, and now am rebuilding it in OpenSCAD.

It's still a significant work in progress, but I'm making it parameterizable, so if the walls needs to be thicker, or have to slide something a little, can just edit the file and tweak the numbers and regenerate it.

Then I looked at Facebook, and saw this post from Eric Carros in the "MDOC: Mitsubishi Delica Owners Club USA" group

So, there is definitely hope!!!

Saw that 3d printed one as well, and while I understand him not wanting to sell them due to how long they take. Always strikes me as weird people don't immediately toss files up for sale. I'm more impressed that the first step is done. Personally I'd love to remove the alt/incl gauges and put in horizontal slots for my EVC and Turbo Timer.

not a member of the group but I wonder what improvements are , extra or thicker reinforcement? would this affect assembly when reusing oem gauge?

The OpenSCAD version is looking better

And MORE importantly, it's manifold!!!
Screen Shot 2020-12-31 at 3.42.47 PM.jpg
I still have some work to do on the mount bracket and then figure the intersection with the inner/outer shells and the other components, but it's closer... Plus, I can tweak the size to fit my printer!!!!!

So, here's a backup of my most recent version of the OpenSCAD file, in case I get hit by a bus.:cool:o_O

@sck_nogas That's looking great! I think an opportunity will be to do a model for vans that came with the 2 gauge as well as the 3 gauge, as the mounting plate is different.

any updates on this?
Well, I've printed a few test models and then had to tweak things and then my printer started dying.

Just got my replacement printer and need to dial it in..

So, hopefully, can finish this and have a final version available by mid-late March.

I've burned through 5 spools of PETG trying to get this thing "right" and I still don't think it's perfect. Plus, the printer sometimes "hiccups" 26 hours into a 36 hour print and I have to throw the print away!!!!

nice work...id love to contribute..even help resurrecting your printer ... dm me if theres anything i can assist with

He didn't put the file up for sale because he knew he needed to tweak it since he hadn't actually seen my van. I'm sure once he's done with mine he'll put it up, but I know the Nomadic guys wanted to work with him so maybe he won't. I don't know.

Your awesome @sck_nogas I have absolutely no technical know-how or ability to help this effort in any useful way but I am into this and want to applaud all your work here. I say keep it up!
