Update for FTS trailer hitch!
Currently only 3 units for L400 swb, and 5 units for L300 in stock.

Next shipment will be around mid-Sep. Thx.

Both are unibody construction (after '86) and the structural supports are different... there is really no cross compatibility between them in any aspect.

For the price, I would (did) buy from XplorMor:

I now understand the L300 and L400 are different vehicles. What years are the L300 the same thru ? What years are the L400 the same thru?
I messaged thru FB XplorMor.

XplorMor. If you see this Please call me office line 516-888-3663 it rolls to cell when not there. You can call up to 10.30 PM<Eastern. I will be in the shop tomorrow as well. Adam

The third generation L300 van/wagon is the same from 1987 until production ended (2013?). But there is also an L300 truck of the same timeframe which is different (it's the basis of the JB4xx/JB5xx campers)... it has more in common with the second generation L300 van (and isn't unibody).
All years of the L400 are essentially the same ('96- '08). Then replaced by the D5 delica; which is again completely different...

Before you mount a hitch consider if you want a larger tire basket, then buy a dodge dakota used hitch and modify it to fit. You'll need some plate, bolts and patience. Good build if you can weld.

Are you saying I could fit a larger tire with that hitch? That would be awesome. Can’t weld yet but I do wanna learn so I can do my exhaust and other custom things

I'd love one. I'm in Central Ca and could send you a FedEx label for one if you get me the dimensions. Please advise where I can get in touch with you off this forum. Thank you!
Late to party I’m in central CA as well, and have been looking for one for l400 LWB 2.8…

I would put the FTS version as class 2; 3500lbs and 300lb tongue weight max... but I think 3000/250 is more appropriate.
up to 3500lbs with trailer brake
Class 3 is up to 8000lb, or 12000lb w/ weight distribution; 800lb tongue weight. IDT our vans are up to that w/o some serious chassis reinforcement.
Hitches don't have braked/unbraked ratings; that's for the vehicle itself... the general rule is the max unbraked weight is equal to the vehicle's GVW, but I wouldn't want to get close to that w/ an L300. Some (most?) states have regulations for it; typically ~ 2500lb which seems about right for our vans IMO. In PA where I live it's 3000lb or 40% of GVW (approx 2100lb); whichever is less.

Yeah, that sounds more accurate than a class 3. You're description is the most comprehensive rating I've ever found for the FTS hitch!

What's your take on using the hitch in recovery situations? Kinda like the brush bar, IDK if I trust it for extractions.

Depends on the type of extraction. For a straight pull I would trust it; I would trust mine (XplorMor) for more off axis pulls... it's at least as secure as the OEM tow point. But a snatch strap extraction with an idiot at the other end I would be quite concerned about.

Hmm. I was hoping to carry a smaller motorcycle on a hitch carrier but I didnt remember seeing the weight ratings. Would be close to 500 lbs with the carrier. The center receiver doesnt go back very far because of the spare so I was wondering about utilizing all three, adding two more square tubes to the carrier.

Adding more tubes doesn't increase the tongue weight capacity. I would put the XplorMor Tripple Hitch as a low level class 3 hitch... it's got an extra bolt in shear at each end compared to the FTS. I THINK it should handle 500# tongue weight on the road. But I would be much more doubtful about having 500# banging around on it offroad.
The fact that these vans don't have frames keeps them from ever reaching full class 3 capacity IMO... at least not without some significant structural modifications/additions.

Using all three tubes just keeps it from floping around like those carriers do. I built one for the front of my old econoline with two receivers which worked great. 20210926_131734.jpg
