    Welcome to the D5 Forum!

Ok, you asked for it, so here's a D:5 forum. Thanks @Terence Yuen for the suggestion! To get us started I've moved a bunch of existing D:5 threads here. A note for D:5 owners. Delicaforum.com is more geared towards US Delica owners, who won't get D:5 Delicas until 2032. If you want this forum...

    Combination / headlamp switch repair

Reposted from Delica.ca, original writeup by Falco. ... It is a simple switch, complex in style but simple, none the less. The images in this posting were taken with cell phones in dubious light conditions, my apologies for poor quality. There is a small carriage that slides back and forth...

    Transmission fault codes

If the A/T light is flashing, you can make the ECU tell you which codes it's stored. First find your diagnostic connector (looks like an OBD2 connector, but it's not) under the dashboard: To get the error codes do the following - Turn off the engine and remove the key from the ignition -...

EGT is not a four-letter word! (Search function improvement)

Good news, everybody! Search can now find words that are only 3 letters long. Like EGT, Oil, AFR, LSD... A warning though: 3-letter sequences are common and you'll get a lot of trash results. For more targeted results, try selecting "search titles only".

I'm almost in New Jersey, but couldn't pass by @sk66 's home without meeting up! After many years of collaborating on here it was great to finally meet in person :-)

New Jersey Sunday 1st October? Anyone around?

I'll be in New Jersey on the weekend, does anyone want to meet up on Sunday 1st? Maybe at a "coffee and cars" type meet? I have no idea what's good so suggest away. Staying in Hightstown but happy to travel in our Kia-Soul-Or-Equivalent.

I'm in Napa on Saturday 16th September. Who owes me a beer? (Edit: I'm joking about the beer.)

Soooo yeah, I'll be in Napa that weekend. I'm thinking I'll be at the Oxbow around 2pm, if anyone wants to meet and grab a beer and look at Delicas.

Hey Chicago folks, whatcha doing on Saturday 23rd September?

Soooo... I'm going to be in town that weekend. Visiting friends, but we're thinking of hitting a car show or similar on Saturday 23rd September. Does anyone have a suggestion of a car show we could all go to? I'm thinking a "coffee and cars" style casual meetup, but the ones I can find online...

    Scam alert!

The scammers are back with a new angle! "I bought my (name_of_part_you_want) from (Username_of_popular_forum-user). You should contact them on (scammers_email_at_email.com)" If you're asked to get in touch with another forum user, I suggest making contact through the Forum's conversation/PM...

    Fuel sender (temporary) repair

The fuel sender is just a coil of resistive wire, with a wiper arm that makes contact. The fuel level lifts the float, which rotates the wiper arm, making it move along the coil so the resistance drops as the fuel level rises. The wiper can eventually wear out and make poor or intermittent...

Front Hubs, Bearings, Locking hubs: maintenance and replacement tips.

L300s and L400s use the same locking nut tool, so all the advice in this thread on the L400 FAQ is applicable to the L300.

Converting from Automatic to Manual gearbox

This thread is about installing a Manual gearbox into a van that was originally Automatic. Going the other way is much harder: the fuel tank mounting points are different. An automatic gearbox is longer than a manual, so the fuel tank is smaller to clear the transfer case. Fitting a manual...

Slow to fire up when cold? Glow plugs...

It's getting cold here, down to 60F some mornings (brr! ;-)) and on those mornings the van cranks for longer before firing up, and then coughs and splutters a bit. One clue to what's happened is that the glow plugs run for a shorter time than I'd expect: that suggests one glow plug has failed...

Engine Oil Leaks: a comprehensive guide for the 4D56.

Here's a list of almost all the potential leak places on a 4D56 engine, compiled by Yobbo over on the UK MDOC forum, with some edits by me because I just can't help myself. First up: finding the actual source of the oil leak. The 4D56 can leak from many, many places, and the area where the oil...

Kickdown cable adjustment: a conversation with @prayforsurf

Got a photo of your linkages? Extending the lever arm length makes the stroke length longer (longer arm, more angle, pulls further), but if you lengthen the arm you'll have to re-set the stopper free play using the outer cable adjusting nuts.

Temperature Sensors on Cylinder Head: AC, Glow Plugs, or Temperature Gauge

Inoperative AC system The AC wiring on a JDM Delica is poorly documented. Here's a diagram of the wiring near the battery and injection pump/cylinder head: JDM Automatic L300 Diesel AC wiring. In the battery compartment: -thick White wire connects to a thick Black wire via a fusible link...

    Squeaky alternator belts

Alternator belts that squeal for a while after startup (especially when it's cold) are usually just a bit loose. The glow plugs take a lot out of the battery, so the alternator tries to recharge the battery quickly, putting extra load on the drive belts and making them squeal. Belts that squeal...
