My mirror just started flopping around and wouldn't stay still. I saw this thread and noticed I'm not the only one. I liked @sk66 idea of heating the plastic to pop the mirror off but my wife would kill me if I put plastic in the oven.
I ended up using a heat gun to warm the plastic just enough to put some trim tools on one side, then heated a little more to pop the mirror out.
Inside I noticed the little plastic flip/high beam mechanism was broken but I was still able to simply tighten the screw and now no more flop! Could probably add some thread lock to that screw too.
I then heated the plastic again and the mirror popped right back in.
Took 15-20 min tops.
