My Turtle Van the JB470

Small update, Currently back in Utah to ship some product I had pending and pick a few things up. It snowed. I saw a great opportunity to drive the rv in the mud and snow and climb a really steep incline. This thing is very capable!

So the insulation isn't very good in our rigs? I was looking at the underside and it looks like the whole thing should be sprayed with foam. what happened with the original shower pan/drain?

My van never came with a drain pan. Well, I guess maybe over the last 25 years it had one at some point possibly, but my floor is sealed. It's so weird because youd expect to have one with the way the floors and wall are, but just a toilet was in mine. I haven't found one that fits, and I want to keep remaining costs low, so I will probably buy one and modify it to fit.

Insulation, hmm, I was cold sleeping in san diego at night but I guess it was in the 40's.

Dang, I've never looked in mine for a shower pan assuming that, if there's a shower, there must be a pan and drain. Does the 470 have a shower built in? Did you have the heater running and it didn't keep up? I may stay overnight in mine to test things out after this extreme cold spell leaves Portland.

Mine only came with a toilet, there is no plumbing for a shower head, heater, tank etc. I was looking at adding a water tank etc but the weight is sort of against my plans. I do have a gray water tank though, so I am planning on finishing the shower, adding a drain, and installing a heated geyser to use for the shower. Here is a link to what I am looking at.

The webasto does draw power from your main starter battery, so I am nervous to run it all night. I have a red top optima now, but I will probably put an anti gravity battery in eventually because they have starters built in so if you drain it out you can still start the vehicle. I also feel like my webasto is finicky. I haven't checked, but maybe there has to be a certain amount of diesel in the car for the webasto to run? When I do run the webasto it warms up quick in there though yes. If you ran it all night you would be fine even in alaska I bet.

I also get a little nervous about extreme cold and diesel. When I was a kid we took our 300td mercedes wagon to mount hood meadows and the diesel gelled up. I got to sleep on a wooden bench that night and we had to get it towed back the next day... I have no idea what causes this other than cold, so I need to research because it gets way colder in Salt Lake than on Mt Hood.

Just a quick look at the mock up, this is not fully installed yet.
This is generally how the floor will look:
