What Did You Do for Your Van Today?

Man, here I am all proud of myself for installing a USB port and along comes @joshXstaygold with mad cabinetry skills. I mean, you know, I guess the seat that turns into a bed with seamlessly integrates side cabinets and better flooring than I have in my house is fine. You know, if you're into that stuff. But my USB port is pretty darn cool too.

Disclaimer because some people have trouble with my online sense of humor: @joshXstaygold , top tier work man! Truly stunning! I think you could make out like a bandit if you sold blueprint plans and a cut sheet for this setup. Seriously, sooooo many folks out there who have the tools and the skills to replicate that but very few of us have the vision to be able to execute on it without plans, from scratch, like you are. Remarkable work, sir.

Oh, here's my sad little USB:

hahahahahahah don't worry I get your sense of humor. Thanks I really appreciate it! It definitely took a lot of planing and a lot of on the fly tweaks. I basically just took @WanderingPeso 's layout and flipped it to better fit my needs. My wife and I will only be living out of it for roughly 4-6 months so I didn't need to do as an extreme of a build out as them with like big water tank and filtration system leaving me with a bit more play room with the design.

ps. the usb port is cool!!!

Built a new and improved intermittent rear wiper controller that goes inline between the existing switch and the wiring harness.
INT wipes every 12 seconds (like normal), Wash turns on the wiper when washing, and keeps it running for 4 wipes afterwards (like the front windscreen). ON is intended to be left on all the time to run the rear wipers automatically; it wipes the rear screen once when the front wipers are used (to clear dew/rain in the morning) and thereafter every 10 wipes of the front screen. Oh and it does all this with MOSFETs so there's no annoying relay clicking.
(Clearly I was bored).
I think I'll tackle the front wipers next- the intermittent relay clicking is strangely irritating.

Replaced the water pump but forgot to cover the alternator so that got fried! time to pull it and get it rebuilt this week.

Just finished my post about my camper buildout... More info here: http://delicaforum.com/index.php?threads/debra-build-out.1472/

Nice work!

My accomplishment today - oil change with Liqui Moly 15w-40, plus a can of Liqui Moly Diesel Purge into the tank to smooth out the idle. Those came recommended by Apex when I had him do a complete once over of my 93 Exceed. (she got a very clean bill of health, with the exception of needing to change the valve cover gasket some time soon. Parts should be in this week from Coombs.)

Oh, I installed the left hand drive headlights and front corner lights a couple of weeks ago.

Aaaand, she’s going to go up for sale soon :( If only we had a 12 car garage). More later.

Just wondering...is Coombs the best source for the valve cover gasket? What are some other sources?

The part number for this valve cover gasket is MD050312.

Coombs is close to Seattle (as the crow flies), so that's generally easiest for me, but there is a bit of shipping lag time because of customs. And they sell it with the semi circular packing and both rubber bolt seals, so that makes it simple.

-- Delicausa.com has one right now for $45. It seems that it doesn't come with the semi circular packing nor the bolt seals.

-- Mitsubishipartsnow.com is in Florida, and I found a great price on OEM glow plugs there, but you'll have to cross reference the gasket part number since they list parts for US domestic vehicles only. Search through the Parts Number thread herein - http://delicaforum.com/index.php?threads/part-number-thread-for-l300.24/

-- Partsouq in the UAE sells via Ebay. Here's a gasket for a good price. - https://www.ebay.com/itm/MD050312-Genuine-Mitsubishi-GASKET-ROCKER-COVER-/182717633961

-- Or take your chances with Alibaba.

Thanks Todd...I've purchased a few things from Coombs before. They're great about getting things out the door the same day, if they can, only to sit at customs for a week. Will probably call them.
My diesel mechanic gave me a to do list, so - next on my list is to find a turbo.

I’m happy to help. Most of my knowhow has come from everyone else here.

I recall seeing rebuilt turbos at delicausa.com, but I could be wrong; I don’t need one, so I’m not looking too closely. If you have one that needs a rebuild, as opposed to not having one at all, I’m sure that there’s a thread about that in this forum.

I've been getting work done at Dean's Car Care and am happy with their work, but it takes some planning to make that happen. They're about 300 miles from here, I now have a retired diesel mechanic, who lives a mile down the road, who will do the work for $50/hr if I supply the parts. So, now I can start getting some of the major things taken care of.

It's great that you found a small shop who is willing to work on your Delica. You should start and share an Excel spreadsheet of shops for us to call on for work. Obviously, not all shops are open to learning something new, and not everyone can drive 300 miles like yourself (and you shouldn't have to). This forum is built on diy wrenching, obviously, but some things are better left to others with the heavy equipment.
