The lights are on the inside of the red strip, inside the door, they illuminate the silver "DELICA" letters from behind, through the silver. They glow a ghostly green.

Yah I get that they are behind it. I’ve taken the panel off and there are no lights besides the license plate lights. Just wondering if it’s not on every one?

Apparently not all tailgate garnishes light up. Chamonix and Jasper are usually non-illuminated, but my '91 Exceed has the lights. Maybe it was an optional extra?

im guessing it had to be. bummer. i was looking forward to doing it too. who knows i might make something work.

I’ve got a ‘91 GLX which doesn’t illuminate. Has anyone with a non-lit version, added lights to it with success?
I took my rear panel off and found no lights. I found a factory plug and a two half-built sockets as if it was partially prepped for lights. But I shined lights through the "holes" and nothing passes through. It's not really made for lights on my 1991 L-300 Diesel. The back of my Van looks the same as the back of your first picture though, just can't see a way to light that emblem.
were you able to find any of the fiber optic components?

I didn't know the DELICA logo at the rear of my Exceed was supposed to light up when the lights went on. I found this article about replacing the halogen lights, which often fail with LED. The LEDs I bought don't need as much modification and can use the original light mount, where the original post used a custom version. http://www.mdocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=375344&sid=71b4a4ff4cb8bfbeff036c4825e77dcb

I bought these LED eagle eye lights from Amazon and they fit perfectly in the original lens once you remove the old bulb.

It's as easy as removing the rear panel inside the door (with proper body removing tools), removing the old halogen bulb, but keep the lens as you'll need this to insert the LED, and solder the wires to the original connector. The wires are extremely thin from the LEDs but once soldered and shrink wrapped they're strong.

One thing I noticed from the original post is the actual taillights on the left and right (See last image). You'll notice mine only light up at the bottom (original post light up top and bottom), I'm assuming the top should light up as well? I removed the lens and tried another bulb but they both don't light up when the lights are turned on. Am I missing something?

Do you have any pictures of the light socket on the hatch with the bulb removed? Mine doesn’t light up but has mount for the bulb and what looks to be the right equip. When I apply a light to the hole, Delica doesn’t illuminate. I am thinking there should be a piece of glass in there that transmits the illumination to the lettering. Can you confirm this?

I don’t have a photo with the bulb removed. That looks different than mine though, I have metal around the edges. Each side would illuminate half the word. DEL (left) ICA (right). You also may have to shine a high powered light/LED through the hole to see if it lights up as a reg flashlight might not be focused enough.

I can't seem to get the bulbs out of mine they seem to be fused to the fitting does anyone know how to separate aluminium that has corroded together? Mine still works but is quite dark I only notice now as I have replaced the number plate bulbs that had totally rusted with new led fittings which are super bright.

Empty 24 yours looks like its missing a 2.5 inch aluminium conical socket that the bulb fits in to. Hth

On the light-up models there are fibre optics that channel the light to the letters (the green dot on @Geekdriver 's photo). Yours is missing the fibre optics (as well as the large alloy heat sink/plinth the bulb mounts to.

Grip the shiny part with vise-grips and wiggle/rotate? The O-ring inside has probably melted onto the bulb holder. The shiny reflector part is metal, so it's fairly strong.

DANG!!!! I was hoping to retrofit it to light up. Has anyone done this?
