Delica JB500 Camper

The work of replacing the timing belt and other stuff is proceeding well, just ordered more parts from Rising Sun http://rs-import.ca/index.php.
I want to start sorting out the suspension/lift. here are my initial though.
1. Extend rear shackles, maybe add a leaf spring
2. Rear air bags or air shocks
3. Front upper ball joint spacer
4. Front air shocks
5. Adjust torsion bar
6. 30 to 31 inch tall tires
Remainder that my rig is a Delica JB500 camper. thx

Changing timing belt, valve cover gasket and general inspection are going along well. Plenty of surface rust at the bottom but not more than expected from a 25 year old vehicle. One embarrassing challenge is that I can not find the EGR valve I looked at this post and another with a video http://delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=100&t=304 that valve on this link is a waste gate on mine. I took picture of the top of the intake and bottom of the turbo .... see below. thx

You really need to be following the workshop manual step by step, it shows the steps needed to change the timing belts and also covers a couple of little quirks that will catch you out if you're making it up as you go along (like tightening the tensioner bolts in the correct order). Manual "11A_4D56 Engine 1991-93" is the easiest to follow. Here's the "removal" main page:

You dismantle in the order given (step 7: crankshaft pulley). Where a step has a letter (like step 14 has <A>, 17 has <B>, etc.) there will be a note on the following pages that has extra explanation of how to do that step correctly.
Reassembly has a similar list of steps, again with lettered notes (with the arrows pointing inwards so you know it's a "reassembly" note).

For additional real-world pictures of a timing belt change there's a thread on delica.ca, but you should use that as supplementary info only, follow the workshop manual as much as possible.

Is there a similar set of instructions for changing the alternator belt? I'm seeing how to remove the alternator entirely in the "Engine Electrical" document but not just the associated belts.

Is it possible that I have no EGR valve? The first picture is where the EGR valve is suppose to be located, the second picture is my engine, as you can see there is no EGR valve there.

Can someone confirm that this is a Pajero suspension or direct me to a forum that can confirm. thxfront end.JPG

It looks like your's never had an EGR valve. And the L300 does share some front suspension parts with late 80's Pajero/Montero.

If I can confirm that it is a Pajero I am thinking of getting a heavy duty pajero lift kit. Thx

Today I will start the timing belt job after receiving most of the parts yesterday. Picture is one of the tool I fabricated to remove the pulleys.

Made progress today installed timing belt B and water pump, first time doing this so double checking and triple checking everything. I am using this link and the manual http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16587 in addition to the tools used on the link I also used a thin plastic to guide the oil seal into the shaft. thank you all for your help, hope to install the timing belt tomorrow.

Since I don't have an EGR valve I plan to put the EGT probe before turbo on the manifold. Any thought on this?

Timing belt done, waiting for the alternator to arrive. Meanwhile changing all the fluid, checking brake, addressing some of the rust etc.

It is button up with the alternator, BUT it won't start. I am 300% sure all the timing lines are lined up, I double check and triple checked manually turned the engine about six time before covering her up. I am hoping it is just air on the line. I checked voltage of the glow plug it was 9.7 and it turns on and off. I will change the fuel filter and bleed the lines today. thx

9.7v sounds low to me... maybe if you were checking at the #1 cylinder rather than the bus bar supply connection...

I would crank an injector to make sure you are getting fuel, then I would try running 12v straight to the bus bar from the battery...
I bleed the 4 the injectors and yes there is fuel is each of the injectors. I checked the battery it had 11 plus voltage on it so I will change it. I am out getting a new battery.

When it's cranking is it trying to start? Making the occasional cough and puff of smoke? Or is it just cranking?

When you bled the injectors, was the fuel squirting/gushing out as you cranked the engine? Bleeding the injectors should be messy, if it's just dribbling then your injection pump might not be supplying fuel.
Check the cutoff solenoid on the injector pump, make sure it has power and goes "click" when power is applied/ignition turned on. (I'm thinking you might have disconnected it while working on the engine).

Try bleeding the fuel filter (open the 10mm bolt 2 turns, pump the black knob until fuel gushes out the bolt, then close the bolt again), then pumping the black knob about 20 times: that'll pump fuel into and through the injection pump.

Your timing looks good from what I can see in the photos.
