Delica JB500 Camper

Do you have any links to the items you've installed? I have a JB470 that I would like to get to this height and am in desperate need of some component details. I am looking to haul my dirtbike on the back and your rear setup is fantastic!
It should all be on this thread Atlas Suspendsion added 3 lift springs that will support 500 pound without sagging, shackles are from Rising Sun, if RS don’t have front bushing I have them. Atlas Suspendsion also installed bilstein shock all four. I re indexed the torsion bar 2 tooth, the front when up 4”. The rear is 1” higher than the front. I could have gone to 30” tire. Glad to be helpful. Atlas Suspendsion is in Los Angeles. I also widen the track 7” in the rear 3” in the front. Thx

I did some digging and couldn't find these parts. All I could find is a 4X4 club forum in Colorado called rising sun and Atlas suspension only sells spring kits for the Montero (don't know if that is compatable). It would be nice to be down in LA to get this kind of suspension work done by them with the rig in their shop but I might have to find someone locally that can do the work. If you could send me a link to the shackles you purchased I can probably get a delica tech to give me the specs on suspension components I can order and have installed at my local shop. Also, where did you get your receiver hitch? I have been looking everywhere for one but am thinking of having one fabbed up special.

Rising Sun is in Canada here is a link to their website http://rs-import.ca/index.php email or text Steve Lee 778 995 2459 i find him to be responsive i get most of my parts from there, if you talk to Steve i am sure he knows the spec of JB470. I am willing to go to atlas suspension and they can replicate what they put on my rig but it is pretty custom made base on the weight etc .... so i think it would be a risk. The hitch i just went to a hitch installer locally, they should be able to do your no problem. If you are interested in widening your track width here is where i got mine https://www.wheeladapter.com/ they are custom made and they are machine while i waited, if your wheel and mine are same specs they can replicate mine.

Addition to the JB500; we boost and mounted Vair.

Awesome! Thank you for the links, I think I can source some local leaf spring manufacturers (or at least one that is closer). I'll give some local hitch installers a tap on the shoulder as well. I might tackle the stance once I get around to wheel bearings.

I might be able to help on the fridge.

There should be a relay on top of the fridge. The load feed is 12v straight from the habitation battery. The switch feed is from the vehicle ignition. When ignition is on then the relay is closed and 12v is connected to the heater probe. The heater then heats the ammonia hydrogen water mix in the tubes and the fridge gets cold.

Your fridge works on mains voltage so the mix has not leaked out. There is no pump - it works by convection. I have the wiring diagram and will post it.
Hello @Arnothill I am ready to sort out the fridge. Again the fridge works fine when connected to the 110 volt and propane. It does not work on 12 volt. My fan for the camper AC also does not work i am wondering if these two are connected since they are both powered by the ignition switch. If you have the wiring diagram please post it. Thank you.

@Arnothill I checked these four fuses i circled, all of them are good. Are there another her fuse some place? Thanks

I've had my JB500 since 9/20, it came over in 5/20. Had 15K miles on arrival, pretty clean.
I've done work to it, had a custom rear platform trailer hitch fabricated, welded to the frame.
Starting to set up a roof solar panel, expanded house batteries, etc.
I'm also having issues with the appliances, plus I think my LPG solenoid is kaput, I can't get gas flow. I haven't removed it yet, trying to determine if there's power to it first. The gas solenoid switch is a bit confusing, the two buttons seem to be, use the left one first, it lights on, then hit the right switch, that should energize the solenoid? The right switch does nothing.
I will pull the small control panel out, that's where the solenoid wire must run to, and try to send 12v directly to the solenoid to see if it makes a click noise, and sends gas.

Hi Macleod,

The gas solenoid has a rocker switch and a push to make switch. You need to switch the rocker then push the second switch too.

Instructions for removing the fridge are on my blog. The hard part is to reach under the sink and remove the screws that go through the wooden cabinet side into the fridge. Do this by feel as you cannot see what you are doing. Or take out the sink.

Hi to all! I'm a new member of this forum and about to acquire a 'new' 1995 Vantech Delica JB-470. 5sp 4WD 4d56 turbo with 71,000k. I'm very excited about the purchase and can't wait to dig into it and start doing some upgrades. I've been reading the forum and excited to find a few JB-470 and JB-500 owners here. I hope to get some ideas and advice from those of you who've been over this same path. Thanks!

Welcome! happy to help also happy to learn. Yes they are slow but very comfortable and fun to drive, ours is almost a daily driver. Have fun✊

Yep. Nulla and I agree. This year my car has been off the road because uk road tax on a 3.7 litre is expensive, especially under lockdown when I dont go out. So my jb500 has been used since March. Not quick, but I really enjoy driving it. Good in snow too. If you want i have a blog delicacamper.blogspot.com some stuff about fixing and my travel. Check out scotland and europe bits.

Thanks Nulla and Arnothill for your responses. Really nice to have this contact. Yes, my test drive proved it to not be a fast vehicle, but it was surprisingly faster than I was expecting having read a lot about it being 'slow'. I was also able to test its 4wd capabilities - crawling over a few curbs and navigating a rough track off the pavement. It was quite strong... a fully capable off road vehicle, given the limits of its weight and high center of gravity. Very enjoyable driving experience.

Arnothill, thanks for the passing me your blog info. I'll be sure to check it out.

Once I take delivery of the car I'm certain I'll be asking you both for a little help. Up front, I'm wondering if anyone has access to a manual of either the JB470 or the JB500 in any language. Cheers.

I have the hard copy camper manual in Japanese. I am not sure if it is available on line. I can take picture of the pages if needed. We are preparing to cross the border into Baja California, Mexico, so it might take some time. If there are specific section that you need like how to turn the hot water heater on i can do that.

Excellent! That's good news. I've been googling to try and find one online but no luck so far. I don't need anything specific at the moment, but eventually it would be nice to have a copy. I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to these kinds of details. For me, I can never get enough information on a machine I will depend on and use regularly. Since I plan to do some very lengthy travels, and expect to do a lot of the wrenching and repair myself, an owners manual and service manuals for the various components will be very useful items to have on hand.

I have friends in Japan that can help me with translations when the time comes.

Enjoy your trip to Baja! I've made that journey a few times myself, although it's been many, many years now. For sure its changed a lot since I was there. Stay safe!

I just use google translate on my phone to translate the manual, works so far. We live in Los Angeles so we have made this journey many times also. Other rig is stored in Faro, Portugal, our world overlanding is postpone because of covid. You can check out our website nullacruising.com if you want. Enjoy.
